How Much Does Gutter Cleaning Cost in San Luis Obispo County?

Clear Wave Windows • October 22, 2026

Gutter cleaning cost in San Luis Obispo County depends on the house: how many feet of gutter there are, how high and steep the roof is, how packed the debris is, and how many downspouts need clearing. Clear Wave Windows gives free quotes for one-time and recurring gutter cleaning across the Central Coast.

Two houses on the same street can get very different quotes. One is a single-story ranch with a short run of gutter and a clear yard. The other has a second story, a tile roof and a Monterey pine leaning over the back eave. The second one is more work, and the price follows the work.

What goes into the cost of gutter cleaning?

The price covers time on the ladder and the roof, clearing the gutters by hand, and making sure each downspout drains. Some features of a house add a lot more time than others.

FactorWhy it changes the price
Length of gutterMore linear feet means more ladder moves and more debris to clear.
Number of storiesSecond-story gutters take more careful setup and slower work.
Roof pitch and materialSteep roofs and clay or concrete tile limit where anyone can safely stand or walk.
How full the gutters areA light layer of leaves comes out fast. Wet, packed mats of needles take much longer.
DownspoutsEvery downspout gets checked, and a clogged one has to be cleared before the gutter drains.
Gutter guardsGuards often have to come off and go back on to reach what got under them.
AccessFences, steep slopes, decks and heavy landscaping make it harder to set ladders.
One-time or recurringA gutter cleaned on a schedule usually has less buildup to deal with on each visit.

Why does a two-story house cost more to clean?

Height adds time. A ladder against a second-story eave has to be set, checked and moved with more care, and on a steep roof there are fewer places to work from. Covering the same length of gutter takes longer at 20 feet than at 10.

Roof material matters here too. Plenty of homes in San Luis Obispo County have clay or concrete tile roofs, which can crack if someone walks on it carelessly. Gutters under a tile roof are usually cleaned from the ladder instead of from the roof, so the ladder moves more often.

This is also the point where doing it yourself gets risky. Scooping out wet clumps of leaves by hand while keeping your balance near the top rung is the part most people are glad to hand off. Our post on why professional gutter cleaning is worth it covers that side of the decision.

How do pine needles and oak leaves change the job?

Tree cover is often the biggest variable in a gutter cleaning quote. It decides how much ends up in the gutter and how hard it is to get out.

In Cambria and along the coast, Monterey pines drop needles that knit into a dense mat. The marine layer keeps that mat damp, so it packs down and holds water instead of blowing out. Inland in Atascadero, Templeton and Paso Robles, oaks drop leaves, catkins and acorns, and the hotter, dustier weather adds grit that settles into the bottom of the gutter.

A house with no trees nearby may only need a light clearing. A house under a big pine or a stand of oaks can fill its gutters again long before the next fall. We go further into how each kind of tree affects gutters in How Tree Type Impacts Your Gutter Cleaning Needs.

Are downspouts and gutter guards part of the price?

Downspouts are part of every Clear Wave gutter cleaning. We clear the gutters, then make sure each downspout drains. A gutter can look empty from the ground while the downspout below it is packed solid, and that blockage is what sends water over the edge in the first rain.

More downspouts mean more to check, and a badly clogged one adds time. So does a downspout that runs underground or into a drain line, since the blockage can sit somewhere you can't see from the gutter.

Gutter guards cut down on the big debris, but they don't stop everything. Fine needles, seeds and grit still work their way underneath, and getting at them usually means lifting the guards off and setting them back. If your house has guards, mention it when you ask for a quote. Our post on whether gutter guards reduce the need for cleaning explains what they do and don't catch.

Is a one-time cleaning or a recurring plan better value?

It depends mostly on your trees. Clear Wave offers one-time gutter cleaning as well as monthly and quarterly service, and each fits a different kind of property:

  • A one-time cleaning each year suits a house with few trees nearby. Most homes need at least one cleaning in late fall, after the leaves drop and before the heavy rain.
  • Quarterly service suits homes with moderate tree cover, or a pine or oak that keeps dropping through the year.
  • Monthly service suits homes right under heavy canopy, where gutters fill up again quickly.

A recurring schedule keeps buildup from turning into packed, wet mats, which is where the slow and messy work comes from. It also means the gutters are already clear when a storm shows up, instead of overflowing during the first big one.

Frequently asked questions

Do you clean the downspouts too?

Yes. Clear Wave clears the gutters and makes sure each downspout drains, since a blocked downspout is the usual reason a gutter overflows.

When is the best time to book gutter cleaning on the Central Coast?

Late fall, after the leaves and needles drop and before the heavy winter rain. Homes under heavy tree cover usually need more than one visit a year.

Can I get a window cleaning quote at the same time?

Ask for both in the same quote request. Clear Wave also offers window cleaning, pressure washing and soft washing, and planning them together is simpler than booking separately.

Is the quote free?

Yes. Gutter cleaning quotes are free, and first-time customers get $20 off their first service.
